The painting was created in 2013 for an exhibition entitled "Orient", three years after the outbreak of the Arab Spring.
The main motif of the painting is a typical Moroccan ornament (arabesque) - the so-called "spider web of God", which symbolizes the Islamic faith of the Arab world, with the coloured cahels in the web symbolizing the individual countries. The suffering, misery and destruction caused by all the wars and unrest are symbolized by the broken kahels.  Today, in 2024, the fire of destruction is still burning and new sources of fire are constantly emerging - hence the question "Quo vadis?".
