The painting shows an idyllic river, the Enz, flowing calmly and majestically through the scene. The sun is leaning towards the horizon, the houses of the town of Besigheim in the evening sun are reflected on the smooth surface of the water. The reflections take on the colors of the shining copper. The waves of the water break the image of the houses and lend this reflection a special liveliness.
The mixture of warm orange tones, reddish reflections and the shimmering copper of the houses creates a picturesque scene. The artist has captured the interplay of light and color and the magic of this special moment when the sun sets and the city is reflected in the river.
