The painting presents a winter landscape in impressionist style. A clearing in the forest is penetrated by the late afternoon sun's rays falling on the snow. Long shadows from the trees stretch across the ground. The predominant colors range from deep ultramarine to soft blues, from dark browns to light ochres or reddish-yellow tones.
